This week is Coeliac Awareness Week in Australia.  Four years ago we knew nothing about coeliac disease, and we never imagined that two of our children would be diagnosed with it a short time later.  It has changed our life, the way we cook, eat, live!  You can read about our coeliac adventure on the page:  Coeliac Disease and Us.

If you are not sure what coeliac disease is, or think that you may have it, head over to Coeliac Australia’s awareness campaign website.

To help promote coeliac awareness we thought we would share with you a gluten free recipe that everyone loves at our place.  It is temaki sushi, or ‘hand rolled’ sushi.  You don’t have to be an expert cook to make them, and everyone can get involved too!

New Gluten Free Recipes!

How has your week started off? Have you been having fun on the weekends?  We have been sharing a little on our Facebook page about what cheap fun we have been getting up to, and we would love to hear from you too!  We had kids in the kitchen on the weekend, did you?

Speaking of kitchens, do you get creative in the kitchen?  Janelle loves to create with all sorts of materials, and sometimes that process happens in the kitchen, with food of course!  Every now and then she comes up with a great recipe idea, and one of her favourite main meals that she created is the Gluten Free Bacon and Asparagus Stir Fry.  It is quick, easy and tasty, and if you don’t like asparagus, swap it for broccoli!  By omitting the parmesan cheese it will be dairy free too!

One of the kids’ favourite meals at home is our Gluten Free Buffet.  It is great for a gathering of friends or a large family and if you don’t need to cater for gluten free or other dietary requirements, then the sky is the limit… almost! You can add anything you like to this delicious selection of food and you can cater to individual tastes or needs.

Coeliac Disease

Coeliac disease, gluten free, symptoms, imagine make believe, children

Coeliac disease, gluten free, symptoms, imagine make believe, childrenIt may seem a little odd that we are writing about coeliac disease here, at Imagine. Make. Believe.  It may not seem so strange though, when you learn that two of the four children that contribute here have coeliac disease.

Why write about it here though?  Because we want to share with you a little of our journey with the disease, and what it means for us, how we have dealt with it, and our best tips, in the hope of helping others, especially parents of children with the disease.

So what is coeliac disease? What are the symptoms?  We have two pages of information, one about coeliac disease and our journey with it, and the other is where we share our best tips in dealing with two children who have to eat gluten free.  They can be found on our Recipes page.

Happy reading!
